The History of ROTHENBERGER

Established in 1949 by engineer Edwin Rothenberger, the ROTHENBERGER Group has grown to be an international market leader of innovative and technologically advanced pipe tools and machines.

The development of the R-System tools for fitting-free tube installation revolutionized the European installation process for copper pipe in 1967. As a first step to becoming a global company, their location in France opened in 1969 followed by additional locations in Europe, the United States, and Australia.

ROTHENBERGER gained position and strength by purchasing ROWO, GmbH, in 1977, SUPER EGO, Spain, in 1981, and the UNICUM Group, France, in 1982. In 2003, ROTHENBERGER purchased SIEVERT, manufacturer of professional soldering equipment in Sweden, and KROLL GmbH, manufacturer of local authority vehicles in wastewater technology.

In 1992, additional sales companies were established in Hungary, Czech Republic and Poland. Subsidiaries in China, South Africa, Brazil, and Turkey opened in 2001. India and Mexico followed in 2004.

At the end of 2004, the focus on the North American market was expanded with the 50/50 joint venture between ROTHENBERGER AG and GREENLEE TEXTRON, Inc., a market leader for installation tools and equipment for electricians. This partnership allows ROTHENBERGER to leverage Greenlee’s North American logistical footprint, sales, and marketing expertise.

The driving force behind the success of a company is its people. ROTHENBERGER’s highly motivated, qualified employees guarantee that success through their hard work, and commitment to excellent product solutions and customer service.

Today, ROTHENBERGER remains the global market leader with over 40 international group companies selling more than 25 million quality tools, developed, produced, and sold by over 1,200 employees. ROTHENBERGER holds more than 150 patents, and certification in ISO 9000, 9001 and 9002. In addition, achievement of ISO 14001 certification reflects the ROTHENBERGER group sense of responsibility to ensure that our factories’ production and other operations have the minimum possible impact on the environment ensuring the good health of our customers and future generations.
